A-17 Manufacturing – Just-in-time

In today’s Business English podcast we are going to look at the Just-in-Time process. The Just-in-time (JIT) way of working, which is also known as a lean production system, is a philosophy that tries to make any manufacturing process more cost-effective by eliminating waste. In the mp3, we are going to listen as Christy introduces the concept, and explains a little more about it.

  8. hi, there! To reduce inventory cost, build VMI(Vendor Managed Inventory) system is a good way. Could you please add one lesson about VMI system? What’s the effect of VMI on supply chain management? How to set up a VMI program? I will dicuss this issue with my boss. But I am not sure if there is any terminology in this field. unknown means mumble jumble?

  9. lilyelf - great lesson idea, I’ll add it to the list. Some people may be familiar with VMI but unsure how to talk about it.

Mumble jumble means “words that don’t make any sense”, either because they’re too technical or you just don’t understand it. The phrase isn’t that common, so don’t worry about using it - as long as you recognize it and understand what it means, that’s enough. It’s usually said as the sentence: “It’s all mumble jumble to me,” when you really don’t understand something.
