Upcoming Lessons
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share what lessons are coming up over the next couple of weeks. We’ve been doing a lot of office English over the past few weeks, but of course business English goes beyond the office.
Over the next 4 weeks or so we’ll have lessons on airlines, hotels, insurance and banks. They’ll be lots of great language, both for people who work in these fields and the rest of us, who are customers of these industries.
Enjoy, and as always, feel free to comment on our lessons or suggest some for us to produce.
Kris
Thanks for your efforts. For me, I like lower intermediate and upter intermediate courses best, can you increase the proportion of these parts?

somewhat off-topic as I know your focus is business English, but I was wondering if you had any plans to expand into, uh, just plain English. I had recommended this site based on my experience with sister ChinesePod, only to realize it was a lot more specialized. I still listened to a few podcasts for the fun of it, very good stuff, will keep in mind for colleagues, but my high-school nephew’s looking for a broader range of lessons, any recommendations there?

Yves, I can see how our lessons are not suitable, and even boring for, a high-school kid. I would recommend eslpod.com for general English, but again, it’s mainly aimed at adults (who have money to spend). Still, they’ve got so much on the website, there’s got to be topics your nephew is interested in or needs for school.
Looks like for the time being, ODE will focus on Business English - but who knows what the future holds.

Qin Ling,
Thanks for your opinion -
“For me, I like lower intermediate and upter intermediate courses best, can you increase the proportion of these parts?”
- we’ll do our best!

Hi Kris,
I heard this website on Kaien Pod,I found it’s very useful for me,and I’ve learned a lot of words and phrases from it, but recently you’ve stopped updating the general english website (zh.englishpod.com). Are all the course on zh.englishpod.com finished? I’m looking forward to your reply.

Hi Len,
ZH is dead… or almost. We’re keeping it up for Chinese readers who want to listen to general English lessons. However, eventually we’ll be taking it down. We are currently building a Chinese version of this site, but it will have the same content (i.e. business English lessons), just with Chinese titles, tabs, tags, help pages, etc. That’ll probably be done before New Years. (French and Spanish versions to follow).
We’re not quite sure what to do with the general English lessons from zh.englishpod.com. We may translate the introductions, etc., and put them on the main site (this one). It would be a great value-added section for all the students. However, that involves making a separate podcast archive, and people will probably ask why we’re not making more general English lessons. It’s really not our focus, so for the foreseeable future, we won’t be making more of them.
Would love to make more down the road - they’ll tons of fun!

David,
Good comment:
“it might be worth inviting some guest speaker to talk about weekly business news or issues around the world”
We’ve been thinking about this idea for a long time. I’d like to do it - perhaps in the New Year. That would be a great way of getting authentic business English straight from people with great experience.
As for hosts in general, we’re always looking for more, but scheduling everyone is tough sometimes. We’ll probably have some new voices for you in the near future.

One more question. Can I post the blogs/comments here if I find any problems when I’m listening the mp3 from ZH?

Hi Len,
Please post comments at ZH. Alternatively, you can email us at englishpod@gmail.com.
Thanks, have a great day!

Hi Kris, will you add a forum in the near future?
My colleagues seem get ready for Christmas already. They are in high spirits on Christmas! Have you bought a Christmas tree in Shanghai! Best wishes to you and all ODE team members!

Hi lilyelf,
We are going to build a forum very soon - we are currently building a Chinese version of ODE and we’ll test out the forum there (in 2 or 3 weeks). We’ll add it to the main website sometime towards the end of Q1. I think this will add great value to the website. We can share ideas about general English topics, business, tips for learning and there can even be pages for people to share ideas in their native languages.
About the Christmas tree - I already have one (a fake). It’s 3 years old but already starting to look a little worn. I’ll probably put it up this weekend : )
