Hi!
Thanks for perfect lessons again!
You see, this october I took part in Scientific Festival in Moscow State University. My colleagues and I have presented our department at the exhibition. I also needed to comunicate in English there. So I’ve got an idea about… may be you could make lessons on the following subject: when a person is at an exhibition, business or scientific, for example, what languge is better to use to speak to other people if you’d like to collaborate with them, or may be if they try to offer you a job in there company. Smth like that. It was not difficult to present our results and projects at the Festival, but I’m interested in the ways to make new contacts… in good languge for that.
Thanks!

Irina, we’re all blushing from your compliment. Thanks. You got job offers at the exhibition? That’s great!
Now, about the lesson request. I can pick out about 10 lessons from the ideas you suggested - there are tons of business and scientific exhibitions all over the world these days, and the primary language of both business and science at the moment is English. It seems like you’re most interested in making contacts, and collaborating with others (sounds like you’ve got the presentation lessons down… which means you’ve learned them well).
As I see it, we could try to make the following lessons:
Business Introductions (there are so many ways to introduce yourself and be introduced to someone, and not all are ‘lower’ level lessons)
Mutual acquaintances
Asking about someone’s business
Asking about cooperating
Exchanging business cards
Asking about future plans
Inviting someone to a ‘get together’
Coffee invitations
Drink invitations
Lunch invitations
Accepting invitations
Refusing invitations
Refusing cooperation
Asking someone to come work for you
That’s just a shot list from the ideas you’ve given us. Thanks a lot - it should keep us busy for a while.
Kris

Interesting site. Lingua Spectrum has some interesting stuff, too.
